Guest Speaker:

First up was Myron Kroph.

He has been in the bee business for 20 years.  His first year he got 35 packages and 3/4 died from mites, the 3rd year he had foul brood.

Organic beekeepers out of Arizona passed along what they do to defend against mites. He had  25% loss, but  now down to about 5% loss.

New Comb bees survive winters better.

4.9 - 5.3 mm chambers cell, wax formation

smaller cells less mites, big cells more mites

Drones that are mite infected carry diseases and pass to queens

Take empty boxes off hives - too much space will kill bees

Then Lonnie Perry had show and tell of Swarm Box (20" x 7 3/4" x 16.5").

Any scrap wood will do to make it.

will hold 1 - 5 frames

for ventilation vent holes with screen

Lure with waxed frames with comb

Place it anywhere - in the tree, on the ground, close or far,  the bees will find it.

Recommenced to have it face to an open field with it nestled up again tree line.

Use Lemon Grass oil scent entrance and frames to entice the bees, but not too much to make it overbearing and deter them.

Perfect Bees offer online classes regarding Beekeeping.  A good thing to check out.
