Meeting Minutes from December 12, 2017 were accepted as read. We did not have a meeting for January due to inclement weather.
Grandma's Country Cookin', where we normally meet was closed for January and February. It will re-open in March and we will assume our meetings there. During these 2 months, it was a bit chaotic and folks showed up at Grandma via the newspaper and radio announcements. We apologize for this inconvenience . For our February meeting, it was arranged to have it at the Wise Cabin Grill on SR63 in Hardy, but they were closed, and gave me no notice of such. Luckily, arrangements were made to have it across the street at the Subway inside the Valero Gas Station. Notes were left on doors and windows of Grandma's and Wise Cabin Grill, to direct folks to Subway. Again, we are sorry for the confusion. Please join us back at Grandma's in March.
Jeff Woods was our guest speaker tonight. He spoke on various feeding techniques for your bees and brought examples. Some overall recommendations he offered were:
1. Do not open the lid of the bees if they are not flying about. May do more harm than good.
2. Sugar cakes - for winter - Wax paper between cakes
3. No sugar water if cold, they will not drink it. use 1/2 / 1/2 stimulates queens
4. Little pollen / nectar from soybeans.
5. Set small bucket on frames with holes in lid.https://www.betterbee.com/images/Feeder_Pail_Instruction.pdf
6. Frame Feeder in spring.
7. 1/16 drill bit - drill hole in lip of 5 gallon bucket.
Place upside down - sugar water fills through.
8.. Pollen Feeders at Mann Lake - Put out in March to stimulate faster growth.
9. Mite guard in Sept / Oct - Fogger is good to use
10. Pine nuggets - tote with holes and mesh covering
11. Feed to fill brood boxes, not supers.
